Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, will be celebrated from September 7 to September 17, 2024. This grand occasion honors the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings. Among the many celebrations, the Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai stands out as a focal point of devotion and festivity.
Lalbaugcha Raja: A Legacy Since 1934
As the festival approaches, all eyes turn to Lalbaugcha Raja, the iconic Ganpati idol that has captured the hearts of devotees since 1934. Located in Putalabai Chawl and celebrated at the Lalbaug Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, this magnificent idol has been the center of faith for thousands, including celebrities, business leaders, and international visitors.
Adorned with intricate gold ornaments, Lalbaugcha Raja stays on display for 11 days, during which devotees flock to seek blessings. There are two queues for darshan—Mukh Darshan for those wishing to see the idol’s face and Navasachi Darshan, a special line for those seeking to touch the idol’s feet as a sign of respect and devotion. Be prepared for long wait times, especially in the Navasachi queue, but the experience is worth the patience.
